Our play kitchen and all the food accessories have been the cornerstone of all the kid's toys. The number of ridiculous games we've played alongside the kids in that toy kitchen and the laughter we've shared are priceless memories we'll forever hold!

After they crafted a revolutionary wool fabric made specifically for footwear, an entirely new category of shoes was created. These shoes were inspired by natural materials and an ongoing mantra to create better things in better ways. The best part? They not only created a natural shoe but also an incredibly comfortable one!

A few years ago a shoe brand kept popping up in my Instagram ads. I took a chance. And now Virginia and I wear the most comfortable shoes we’ve ever owned! I’ve now bought several pair. We can’t speak for every shoe they make, but the Tree Runners and Tree Skippers are amazing and worth every penny (especially when you catch them on sale). If you are a half-size (like me) you’ll need to size up, but I’ve not had a problem with the fit.

Marley’s Monsters

Before Marley’s birth Sarah dusted off her sewing machine and got to work creating her first monster out of fabric scraps she and collected. With hard work, dedication, and trial and error, Sarah eventually went on to launch her own business making reusable products products that reduce waste, cut costs, replace single use disposables, and make a positive impact on our environment.

We have a long way to go to become a zero waste home, but saving money? We are here for that! So when we discovered unpaper towels we gave it a try and haven’t looked back. Nowadays we rarely purchase more than 2-3 rolls of paper towels a year and we are still using our original roll of unpaper towels. (Though admittedly it is time for a new set!)

Sunglasses block the sun. But when you find a pair that does that, helps you feel confident in the way you look, and puts your mind at ease that when they inevitably are gone (at the bottom of a lake, broken on the ground, or simply lost forever) they’ll biodegrade and barely leave a footprint.

Osprey

Osprey was founded in 1974 when Mike Pfotenhauer, created his first backpack at age 16. The young entrepreneur opened a shop creating custom-fit, made-to-order packs constructed over several days by Mike himself. Today Osprey still holds the belief that adventure is open to everyone and found anywhere.

As Virginia and I geared up to move to Australia for a year I researched looking for the backpack that would serve as our daily base of operations. Enter the Osprey Flap Jack. I have carried my orange Flap Jack almost daily for nine years now. It’s still in great shape and I fully intend to carry it for nine more years if I can. (The Flap Jack has been retired by Osprey, but the Transporter Flap is its successor and appears to have all the features I love about the Flap Jack.)

Hot Tea Kit

I’m not a coffee drinker. I grew up on cold sweet tea and soft drinks. But one frozen winter day Virginia made me a hot blueberry green tea with milk. I went all in. Now I drink four cups of hot tea a day.

Originally I was microwaving a cup of water, but the electric tea kettle Virginia bought me changed the game as did the organizer for all the various teas I like to keep in the cabinets. Of all those teas, Twinnings Earl Grey stands above the rest!

Milk Frother

For you coffee drinkers Virginia 10/10 recommends a milk frother for that coffee shop experience at home. There is something nice about warm milk foam poured over your hot coffee or latte. The best part is when you want a cold brew there is a cold froth option as well!

After she fell in love with the concept while at a friends house another friend was kind enough to gift Virginia one for her birthday. This isn’t the frother Virginia was gifted because it is discontinued. But it is very close in how it works, the settings, and it comes highly rated.

Practicing the Way

We are constantly being formed by the world around us. To be formed by Jesus will require us to become his apprentice.

To live by what the first Christian disciples called a Rule of Life — a set of practices and relational rhythms that slow us down and open up space in our daily lives for God to do what only God can do —transforms the deepest parts of us to become like him.

I call this one his greatest book ever.
